Pinch collars

So I am out for a walk the other day and I must have come across 3 or 4 people who had pinch collars on their dogs. I have to say, this is the most irritating thing for me because I see the end result of these ridiculous things. What I mean is, that I get the call or e-mail about a potential clients dog who is “aggressive”, and sometimes the dog has aggression issues, but many a time the dog is just frustrated and constantly being bitten around the neck at the wrong time and for the wrong reason. What many people don’t understand is that this collar goes against the very fabric of what needs to be achieved, and that is developing a bond with your dog!

Almost all the big box stores and pet shops sell them, and they sell themselves as people in the pet industry. If they were true pet people then they should stop selling these collars and get informed on what kind of a problem it actually creates.

Or people who use them because their dog “pulls” when it wants to greet another dog. When are “trainers” going to learn that the dog just wants to say “hi” and has the need to be social, they are social animals just like we are.

Needless to say, when ever I see a client privately and they have one, I leave their home with that collar in hand and that way I know that they wont be using it anymore  +  I have left them with the know how of teaching their dog to walk on a loose leashe.

About

If you don’t know what I do and where I stand, then let me begin by saying, I was trained by Brad Pattison at his school in Kelowna BC. If you have seen the show, “At The End Of My Leash”,  then you know that I do not beleive in treat training, the use of pinch collars, shock collars, and anything else that is a gimmick and destroys the bond that needs to be created between owner and dog.

This is what I love to do, seeing clients succeed is an awesome feeling of satisfaction.

Hello world!

Hello to all, and welcome to  my blog. I would like to use this as chance for me to allow others to see into my world as a C.E.T. (certified educator trainer). Some of the topics may be a little sensitive with others, but if we never get the chance to have an open dialogue and discussion, how are we to ever deal with the issues of the day??

Just remember, this is my first blog, so take it easy on me and it may be a little before i update the page and topic, or start a new one.

Cheers
